Performing Arts

The Basin Primary School has a thriving and exciting Performing Arts program, which gives our students ample opportunities to become involved in the many dance, drama and musical activities where they can explore themselves, new concepts and techniques.

All students from Prep to Grade 6 have a 40-minute session of Performing Arts each week, providing a well-rounded curriculum exploring dance, drama and music.  We have a well-equipped Performing Arts studio with a large open space for students to participate in, and a performance stage where students can show case their work.

Bi-annually our school presents a ‘SCHOOL PRODUCTION’, which is held at Yarra Valley Grammar ‘George Wood Performing Arts Centre.’ All students are involved participating in class items where they sing and dance.  Auditions are conducted for our senior students for the Acting, Singing and Dancer roles. In 2017 the students presented ‘Written Treasure’ over two nights to over 1400 people.

The Basin Primary School pride themselves on providing the students valuable opportunities to explore and experience performing on a variety of stages and curriculum areas outside the classroom environment. These include:

  • DanceFair and DanceStars (an interschool dance competition for Grades 4-6)
  • North Eastern Victorian Region Concert (students join the Primary school choir groups and perform at Hamer Hall)
  • Victorian State Schools’ Spectacular (students participate in Mass Dance and perform at Hiense Arena)
  • Junior Choir Prep to Grade 2 and Senior Choir Grade 3s to 6 (performing at local community events Knox Festival, The Basin Musical Festival, Stringybark Festival and Basin Community Carols)
  • Wakakirri (a state wide story dance competition for the Grade 5/6 students)
  • Dance Clubs for Grades 1 to 6 (performing at local and school event once a term).
