A message from the Principal

The Basin Primary School, situated in the City of Knox, is located at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges and has been an integral part of the local community for well over 100 years. Originally a one teacher rural school, its present enrolment is 570 and has been slowly increasing over the last three years due to an improved socio economic situation where houses are being purchased by young families, our effective transition program, our sound Naplan trend data, a major facilities program resulting in refurbished classrooms, a new gymnasium and an upgraded Administration building, our successful and reputable specialist programs incorporating PE & Sport, Visual Arts, Music Performing Arts, Science and German programs, our focus on the whole child and our many close community links.

The Basin Primary School is totally committed to its focus on the ‘whole child’ balancing the academic, physical, social and personal development of our students. We believe this is best met when parents, their children and the school staff work closely and cooperatively together. Our school aims to provide a challenging environment that develops individual differences and encourages & motivates students through their positive actions to become independent learners in a global society. Our highly professional and dedicated teachers have designed a curriculum to maximise opportunities for all students to experience learning success with a strong focus on building' literacy and numeracy skills as well as catering for a range of student abilities and interests.

As a community of learners and in keeping with our proud heritage we have recently revised our CORE VALUES that underpin all programs for our students to become positive citizens within their community.

Parent survey responses indicate General Satisfaction rates in the top of the fourth quartile well above the state mean. Equally the Student survey results indicate that teaching and learning variables are also ranked high in the fourth quartile with little difference in gender responses with both males and females ranking all variables in the fourth quartile.

Our new school motto is – DREAM, BELIEVE and ACHIEVE.

Dream: It all starts with a dream! Every one of us dreams, especially when we are young. Are you challenging yourself every day to follow your dreams?

Believe: We need to believe in ourselves to have the confidence, determination, resilience and courage to go after our dreams.

Achieve: Achieving success is a combination of keeping strong, being confident, humble, courageous and never giving up!

On behalf of the staff and school council we extend a warm welcome to your family and hope you will form a close and rewarding association with our school.
