Welcome back!
We hope you all had a lovely and restful holiday after first term and enjoyed spending Easter with family and friends.
Term 1 saw all students settling in well to their new classes, making new friends and enjoying lots of learning. Some highlights from Term 1 were the cultural dance incursion, Harmony Week, pancake day and VIP presentations. This term is going to be even busier with Cross Country, an excursion, Education Week, Reconciliation Week, and production!
LITERACY
In English we will be learning how to write narratives and procedural texts. Grammar, phonics and spelling will continue to be taught explicitly in dedicated lessons.
For Reading, students undertake reading lessons based around CAFÉ strategies and practise these skills during sustained independent daily reading. This term we will have a focus around reading fluency and comprehension strategies.
NUMERACY
Our focus in Number will be addition, subtraction and place value. We will also learn about number patterns and practise our skip counting. Fractions and telling the time to and past the quarter hour will be our focus in Measurement, and in Statistics we will be graphing.
INTEGRATED STUDIES
‘Change In My Community’ is the name of our Term 2 Integrated Studies unit. We will be learning all about changes to technology, schooling, transport and lifestyles over the past 100+ years.
We are excited to go on an excursion to Mont De Lancey! Please note that this is a DRESS UP excursion! Perhaps begin to keep an eye out for old time things - shawls, aprons, hats and braces. A good place to check is the op shop. More information on this will be sent out in the coming weeks.
HOME READERS
Please keep listening to your child read every day and recording in their yellow Reader Diaries.
It is wonderful seeing the students’ confidence and reading skills grow. Please remember that progress through the reading levels is very individual and that movement through the reader levels slows down as the difficulty increases.
HOMEWORK
Thank you to all families who are reminding and assisting their children to regularly complete their homework tasks. Please make sure homework books are returned to school by Monday, ready for homework to be sent home on Tuesday. A reminder to check for the additional task allocated for each week. You will find this in the table pasted into books at the start of each term.
SHOW AND TELL
For the first few weeks, we will be continuing with the remainder of our VIP presentations. Show and Tell will resume midway through the term and a notice regarding topics and set days will be sent home closer to this time.
