WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4!

Wow! Can you believe there is only one more term left of Grade 2? We had a busy Term 3 and the students have all been working incredibly hard! We would like to thank all our families for the continued support and encouragement that you give to your children in assisting their learning.

ENGLISH
In Writing this term, we are revising narrative writing in preparation for NAPLAN in Grade 3. This will be done through using example texts, as well as ‘seeds’. We will also be writing procedural texts on a wide variety of topics. Our phonics program remains a priority while continuing to look at phonological, morphemic and visual spelling strategies.

The Reading program is supported by CAFÉ. Reading skills will be learnt through exploring different strategies that can be applied to daily reading.

Students can present Show and Share once a week. This is a great way for your child to build their confidence speaking in front of an audience.

MATHEMATICS
This term in Mathematics we will explore Division and its relationship to Multiplication and Subtraction. Other topics will include fractions, place value, patterns and informal length. The whole school has adopted an open-ended approach to teaching mathematics, supported by activities from Top Ten.

INTEGRATED STUDIES
This term, our Grade 2 students will be exploring an exciting integrated learning topic called ‘Paddock to Plate,’ where we will look at where food and products come from and how they are produced, packaged and sold to meet our needs. Students will explore a range of learning experiences across different curriculum areas, learning about farms, food production, seasonal produce, sustainability and the important people and processes involved in getting food from the paddock to our tables.

Students will have opportunities to develop their understanding of food and farming while making connections to their everyday lives.

We will also go on an excursion around mid-term, with more details to follow.

RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS
Students will be participating in the Respectful Relationships curriculum.

This important learning supports children to develop positive relationships with others and build the skills they need to communicate, cooperate and resolve disagreements respectfully. Through age appropriate activities and discussions, students will explore topics such as respect, kindness, empathy, emotions, friendships, inclusion and helpseeking. Students will be encouraged to recognise and express their own feelings, listen to others, appreciate differences and understand what
healthy, respectful relationships look and feel like.

Our goal is to provide students with practical skills and language they can use in their everyday interactions, helping them to feel safe, valued and confident in their relationships with others.

We look forward to supporting our students as they continue to develop these important social and emotional skills.

HATS
As the warmer weather begins, a reminder that students are required to wear a school hat from the beginning of Term 4 until the end of April, whenever they are outside. Please make sure it is labelled. They can be purchased from the uniform shop or office if you need a new hat.

HOMEWORK
Thank you for your ongoing support with reading at home. A reminder to please write nightly reading in the yellow diaries and encourage lots of chat about the books they have been reading.

SWIMMING
The Prep-2 swimming program at Knox Leisureworks will be in early December and will run over 6 days. Please prepare your child by ensuring they can dress themselves independently. In addition to towel, bathers and goggles, students will be required to wear thongs/slides/crocs to and from the pool. More info will be provided later via Compass.
